Global Warming

The refrigerant currently used in your vehicle’s A/C system, R-134a, is a greenhouse gas. If leaked to the atmosphere, it contributes to global warming! This makes it very important to use the right tools and exercise care when re-charging a system that has become low on refrigerant. It’s also critical that leaks in the system be repaired to maximize your cooling and do your part to minimize our contribution to global warming.

Please refer to our Do-it-Yourself A/C Tips tab, above, for step-by-step instructions on doing the job right and responsibly. Additional tips can be found in streaming demo videos, on the same tab.

You should know that the mobile A/C industry is working on long-term replacements for R-134a that will not contribute to global warming. In the meantime, members of Stay Cool USA have developed and continue to work on new, self sealing valves for cans of R-134a that will help you avoid accidental discharges of refrigerant, in addition to improved DIY product labeling, instructions and video, as referred to above.
